Orange Shirt Day, observed annually on September 30, is a National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada that honours Indigenous children, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. It was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at a residential school. The day serves as a reminder that "Every Child Matters" and aims to raise awareness about the painful history and ongoing impacts of the residential school system
