Oki, greeting in Blackfoot language.
Rochelle’s traditional Blackfoot name is NiyooKssKaissaokassimaati
(Three Root Woman). Born and raised on the Blood Tribe of Southem Alberta, where the prairies are enormous stretches of flat grassland and beautiful wild flowers grow freely. We are bordered by the majestic Old Man River, St. Mary River, and Belly River.
Rochelle is an established traditional beadwork artist and the proud owner of Three Root Tree Woman company. Each piece of my traditional art, moccasins and accessories holds so much meaning of resiliency and carry’s values of my Blackfoot culture. The love of creating traditional art has been passed down for many generations. My mother, Poksinamss Kaah Koyinnimaaki (Little Thundere Pipe Woman) taught me the art of beading, and she was taught by her mom Pookskiakii ( Small Face Woman).
