Loon- Communication, Peace & Tranquility
The Loon is a messenger of the land. After the great flood, Loon was sent out looking for dry land and brought a willow branch back to the people as a symbol that the flood was receding.
Raven- Knowledge, Creativity & Humor
Raven is a symbol of knowledge and creativity. He is known as a catalyst for change and often depicted as a trickster in many stories teaching us life lessons. The Raven is often misbehaving but never boring, and through his actions he brings necessary changes to the community. He could be taken as a symbol of the Coastal People’s view that the world has many faces and is a place full of surprises, neither good nor bad, but often unpredictable.
Stewart Jacobs
Stewart was born in 1958 and raised in North Vancouver, BC into the Squamish Nation where he resides today creating his beautiful pottery.
He first started to carve wood with Fred Baker and learned from the other old masters until he discovered his love of pottery. Stewart’s first throw was in 1979 when he was in high school. He passed by the pottery class and took a keen interest in what was being produced there. He enrolled in the class and his teacher encouraged him to put his Native designs on the pottery and he hasn’t looked back since.
