Bear- Strength, Patience & Teacher
The Bear symbolizes family and strength through motherhood and teachings. Mother Bears are fierce defenders of their children and are great protectors. Bear is a well-respected member of the community and sometime referred to as the protector of the forests. We look to the Bear to show us how to fish and pick berries in our territory.
Beaver- Helpful, Generous & Industrious
Beaver symbolizes good work ethic and determination, with a strong sense of family values. The Beaver has a great understanding of nature and working in harmony with his surroundings, he is very industrious working towards goals and gaining a sense of achievement.
Stewart was born in 1958 and raised in North Vancouver, BC into the Squamish Nation where he resides today creating his beautiful pottery.
He first started to carve wood with Fred Baker and learned from the other old masters until he discovered his love of pottery. Stewart’s first throw was in 1979 when he was in high school. He passed by the pottery class and took a keen interest in what was being produced there. He enrolled in the class and his teacher encouraged him to put his Native designs on the pottery and he hasn’t looked back since.
