Matthew Baker
Matthew is a Squamish Nation wood carver born in 1953 on the Capilano Reservation in North Vancouver, BC. His mother is Kwakiutl and his father is Coast Salish. Matthew was taught by his father Richard, a master totem carver and was taught to carve in the Kwakiutl style. He has now been carving for over 25 years.

Richard is an internationally known artist for his Northwest Coast Art. Richard’s entire linage has been native artists, recorded from his maternal grandmother, Katherine Scow, who was of the Kwakwaka’wakw Peoples in the Northwest Pacific Coast Region.
