” The Salish people have inhabited the area around the Salish Sea for thousands of years. The Salish Sea has been a generous provider to our people offering nourishment as well as inspiration. The unique natural environment and wildlife are central to our ceremonies, regalia, dances and stories. Our culture is based on the relationship our ancestors had with the natural world they lived in and the animals with who they cohabited. The wildlife of the Salish Sea continues to inspire our traditions, teachings and the way we live. Our culture and world view is based on our deep respect of the animals of the Salish Sea.” -Doug LaFortune.
