Gryn White is a Haida artist from Masset, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. Haida Gwaii is a rainforest that stretches over 150 islands and is abundant with bears and other wildlife. As the traditional home of the Haida people, Haida Gwaii is rich with stories, legends and a culture that honours and respects the land and its inhabitants.

“Bears are very important in our culture. There are so many stories about the close relationship we have with bears. Our ancestors honoured and respected bears and learned how to live side by side with them. During our ceremonies we acknowledge bears by featuring bear images on our regalia. This book offers the viewer a window into our culture and the importance of bears in our world” -Gryn White
