TRAVIS “A7XWILL” BILLY

XAXLIP

Travis Billy is an emerging artist from Xaxlip Nation (Fountain) a part of the Stat’limx Nation, although he was raised in the Squamish territory. His main medium is wool weaving but also enjoys working with the inner cedar bark creating baskets. His passion for wool weaving started while he was participating in the Aboriginal Youth Ambassador Program in 2016. His mentors are Allison Joseph and his aunt Lillian Rivers of the Squamish Nation. He taught a couple beginner wool weaving classes at the SLCC. He is very inspired to keep our traditions and culture alive. He specializes in headbands, wrist bands, hanging pieces, bags. When it comes to cedar baskets he is self-taught. He learned the concept of it while learning to wool weave. Travis is also very passionate about drumming and singing the Nations’ songs. He enjoys learning new things and taking on the challenge. His intention is to pass on our tradition and culture to the next generations.
