Reynold Collins, Tsimshian Nation. Reynold was born and raised in Port Essington, B.C. (SPOKECHUTE), which is located on the mouth of the Skeena River (K’SHIAN), and the Eckstall River. He belongs to the KillerWhale Phraty (GISPUDWADA) with ties to the Raven Phraty (GANHADA) through his father. Spokechute is a part of the Kitsumkalum Band Government in Terrace, B.C., and Reynold also has ties to the Kitselas and Gitksan families.
Reynold’s training began from his Father, Mr. Gus Collins, and brother, Mr. Art Collins. He enrolled into the Freda Deising School of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Mr. Ken McNeil, Mr. Stan Bevan, Mr. Dempsey Bob, and Mr. Rocque Berthiume. Further training came from Mr. W. Clifford Bolton (Uncle), and Mr.Stan Greene (Sto:lo Nation), amongst others.
Reynold has worked with many different mediums, such as Wood, Bone, Copper, Paints. Carvings of Totem Poles, Small to large Full Figures, Bentwood Boxes, Masks, Headdresses, Frontlets of both wood and Bone, Paddles, Prints, Paintings, Traditional Puppets, Grease Bowls,Traditional Maces, Spoons, Cedar Bark enhancements.
